Lightning the Argent

Lightning the Argent NovelAfter the release of Guilty Gear X, a novel was published which focused on Ky before the events of the game. A poster was also provided with the novel. Unfortunately, copies of this are very scarce, so this summary is basically a synopsis of Ed's own summary.

Ky, as a police officer, receives several reports regarding a blackmarket organization making a cure-all potion, as well as Gear attacks. He heads to London, England, to investigate and meets Sheevus, the president of the aforementioned group called the Blackard Company. He demonstrates his antidont by smashing a dog's paw, and revitalizing it. As a complimentary gift, he offers Ky one of his potions. Before Ky could react, Sol enters and causes a huge disruption. Furious at his meddling, Ky and Sol fight (yet again). Suddenly, they hear singing, which gives Sol the diversion to escape.

Ky continues his investigation and finds a gang harassing a disabled child. Unable the walk, she is helpless. Ky comes to her aid. He attempts to take her to the hospital, only to be stopped by the villagers. They explain that they were under negotiations with the Blackard Company. While they provide them with financial assistance, the villagers agreed to be test subjects to their experiments. Those who fell sick due to the side effects were never seen again after they were shipped to the hospital.

Suspicious, he decides to make a small stay at the village. He learns more about the girl, whose name was Marina. She is a tutor for the village's guys. Aside from that, he finds a dead body that the Blackard hasn't touched (they apparently took all the corpses before any investigation could be done). The kids also seem to hear singing everytime a murder occurs.

Before going to the doctor Faust for some information about the corpse, Ky offers Marina the potion to help cure her crippleness. She refuses, so he leaves it behind. Marina develops a cold, however, and accidently consumes the potion, thinking it was cold medicine. Ky returns, and is amazed to see her walk.

Faust informs Ky that all the murder victims were patients of his, and that their missing body parts where the places he was treating. Faust hears singing, and encounters Raven. The two fight, and Raven leaves a warning to Ky about Sol to not get close to the source of the 'resonance' (similar to Valentine's, possibly). Ky continues to investigate, and learns that Marina was abandoned at the church, with the marking of Justice in her hands.

Ky rushes to find Marina, but is too late. Marina faints at his presense, and a black figure emerges from her healed legs. Apparently, this was the singer from before. Ky attacks the creature, and carries Marina to Faust. There, he learns the horrible truth - in order to cure all diseases, the human cells were converted to Gear cells. Unfortunately, some go out of control and kill the host.

Upon the revelation, Seevus awakens one of the strongest type of Gears, the Megadeath class, that attacks the village. Bernard, Ky's secretary, calls the Jellyfish Pirates for help. There is more singing from Marina, but Ky realizes that he needs to take care of Seevus. Ky tries to ask Sol to cooperate, but is of course rejected. In another clash, Sol defeats Ky and attempts to take his Fuuraiken. Sol finally tries to kill Marina, but hesitates. He then returns the Fuuraiken to Ky, who goes off to deal with Sheevus.

Sheevus's plans are finally revealed. He hoped to use Marina, the Gear will free will like Justice, to control the Gears to his will. Ky kills him, and is left with the injured Marina. The International Police take custody of her, and let her continue living under protection as "Solaria". Ky, however, receives another notice of another free-willed Gear (Dizzy), and pursuits the trace in America. So the tale of X begins.
