&Introduction; to the guilty gear series
the history of the end of the world

In the 22th century, mankind discovered a new use of energy - magic. Magic, unlike most natural resources, was unlimited, so magic replaced the other elements. Other resources were called "blacktech" and were banned for good. Soon after, the Gear Project began. Mixing animal cells and human cells, those tested became Gears - in which mankind controlled over to use in war. However, controversy struck, and soon the first Gear, 01-Justice, had the potential of betrayal. She was a Commander-type Gear, meaning that she could function on her own will and can control other Gears to her will.
War rampaged and many lives were lost, including the entire region of Japan. The United Nations formed the Seikishidan (The Sacred Order of the Holy Knights) to fight against the Gears, the last hope for mankind. It wasn't until a strange, powerful man named Sol Badguy defeated Justice. Sealed away by members of the Seikishidan, with young leader, Ky Kiske, the Gears were no longer functional, and were eliminated. Science and the industry were abolished afterward. When all hope seemed to be restored, sin still filled the air, and the mystery of the Gears was still yet to be solved. Thus began the legend in the Guilty Gear series.
Our casts includes the two main figures: Sol Badguy, wielder of the element of fire, whose motives are unknown, and Ky Kiske, wielder of the element of lightning, and bringer of justice for all. Our other characters include the Jellyfish Pirates, the Robin Hood of the story: May, the obsessed anchor-wielding child, and Johnny, the egotistical swordsman. The Assassins Syndicate also have the hair-brazen witch, Millia Rage who recently retired, the loyal leader Venom who loves a good game of billiards, out to save Zato-One, and the beast Eddie who took over Zato-One's body, whom fights with a special type of forbidden magic. Chipp, the wannabe Japanese drug-addict, is off to get his revenge for the death of his master. Jam Kuradoberi is a fist-friendly chef with a dream of owning the best restaurant (and a hot guy to work for her). Axl Low is a man from the 20th century who keeps ending up in a time warp and is trying to get home. Potemkin, heavily chained muscle-man, comes from Zepp on a mission, and crazy, random doctor Faust also seeks answers. Baiken, a "samurai-like" woman, is seeking vengance for everyone she loved that died. Anji, the fan-wielding Japanese man also seeks answers. Dizzy, and her "wings" Undine and Necro, is the innocent Command-type Gear whom only wants peace. Testament, a Gear who summons spirits, wishes to protect his "precious one", Dizzy. The cross-dressing bounty hunter with a yo-yo named Bridget sets out to seek pride from his family. A common man named Zappa unexpectably ends up possessed by vengeful spirits and seeks help from Faust. The nightwalker named Slayer, founder of the Assassin's Syndicate and a poet, returns to the destroyed world after years of retiring. And then there's I-No, a musician with a fetish to make others suffer.
Add an organization called the Shuusen Kanrikyoku (Postwar Administration Bureau), whose methods so far are trying to capture and manipulate those of the Japanese descent or survivors of Japan, those who possess the 'Ki' force, and Gears, a mysterious man who seems to know more about Sol and the Gears, and corrupt politicians, and you have a majority of our problems in this world.
